“Doom Fest is a tribute to Mark Stopford. It is our attempt to celebrate his life and legacy. In 2021 we very sadly lost Mark Stopford. Mark was an incredibly popular figure in the independent music scene and at his beloved FC United of Manchester. He was loved and is missed by many. Mark always wanted to make good things happen and support others who were trying to do the same. He was always the first to volunteer his time to help others and he was always the most passionate person in the room. That passion for music and football was infectious. You couldn’t help but feel positive about the world in Mark’s company. As a collective of Mark’s friends and family, we wanted to put together an event that encompassed the DIY spirit Mark lived and breathed. We felt the best way to do this was an all day gig including some of his favourite bands. Putting on the gig at Moston Miners Club is particularly special as the venue is over the road from FC United, where Mark spent so much time. The name Doom Fest is taken from footage of Mark, where he drunkenly announces that the band he is most looking forward to at MPF is Doom. This led to the nickname, ‘Mark Doom’.”
