You’ve probably never heard a punk rock band write a song about Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, but Gymshorts are doing just that with their brand new single, PMDD. Why a song about Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder? Lead singer and guitarist Sarah Greenwell was diagnosed with it, but prior to that, she went years thinking she just had severe PMS, a misconception that’s all too common and highlights how little women’s health is understood. After her diagnosis, Sarah realized that many others may be experiencing the same but have never been properly diagnosed. That’s when she decided to write PMDD, a song that’s both funny and insightful, offering a glimpse into the ups and downs of living with this disorder.
Known for tackling tough subjects with humor, Sarah’s lyrics often explore everything from substance dependence to political divides. PMDD is no exception, blending humor with a serious message to shed light on a topic that affects so many people but isn’t widely discussed.
