Poly StyreneFormer singer of punk band X Ray Spex, Poly Styrene has died after suffering from spine and breast cancer, aged 53.

The singer’s official twitter stated:

“We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places.”

Among their best known songs Oh Bondage, Up Yours! X Ray Spex formed in 1976 after seeing the Sex Pistols perform. The band released one album, the hugely influential Germ Free Adolescents in 1978 and were known for their rebellious attitude and sense of fun.
