Last Thursday, heavy metal innovators Slayer was in Toronto playing at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. Being a huge Slayer fan, our Toronto photographer Lanny Bolger was there snapping pictures – and he got some sweet ones; but at a price. During the third song, a monitor fell of the stage breaking his foot, I’ll let him describe it:
Now for big shows like this photographers are only allowed to shoot the first three songs. So on the third song Tom Araya announced they were performing “War Ensemble”. Nothing gets folks excited like some old school Slayer. I was getting pretty excited too because that’s one of my personal favorite Slayer songs. Now fast forward approximately two minutes in and out of the corner of my eye I see some long blond hair beside me followed by denim and a high top shoe. Just as I thought that’s pretty metal seeing a high top at a Slayer show I feel an intense crushing pain on my right foot. I look down to see that this frigg’n high top kicked over a speaker directly on top my foot. Oooooouuuuuccchhhhhhhh!
Well after realizing what happened and thinking “I’m good” I kept shooting until the end of “War Ensemble”. That’s pretty metal too no? Anyways I hobbled to my car, got in, and drove to the hospital were I was X-ray ed and deemed broken.
So yes, Lanny may have broken his foot -but he got some sweet pictures in the mean time. Check them out here.
