Oxygen Thief Share “Instrumentals Do Not Happen, They Are Caused” Mini Album

Oxygen Thief are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the band’s first mini album, Accidents Do Not Happen, They Are Caused, with the release of a special instrumental re-issue, Instrumentals Do Not Happen, They Are Caused, via Xtra Mile Recordings. A decade on from the album’s initial release, Oxygen Thief frontman Barry Dolan unearthed the instrumental recordings of each track and has made them available on streaming services and on a pay-what-you-want basis via BandcampInstrumentals Do Not Happen, They Are Caused gives a new perspective to the album’s original songs and strips back the vocals to draw focus to the musicianship and features subtly altered titles for each track.

“A few years ago a friend working at an advert agency let me poke around in the massive database of instrumental versions that they had access to for their work. It was amazing to hear songs I know and love without vocals, which made me hear the performances in a new light. Having made instrumental versions of our own songs in the hope that they might get used to soundtrack a dramatic moment in an episode of Eastenders, or in a particularly gnarly toothpaste advert, I’ve always thought it’s a shame bands don’t make these versions more widely available. So, for the 10th anniversary of my first full-band release, we’re doing just that.”
