Ahead of this year’s Rebellion Festival we’re asking a selection of the band’s who are appearing about what we can expect, and for their advice on surviving the four day festival. In the 11th of The Punk Site‘s Rebellion Festival previews we speak to Popes Of Chillitown, they are anything but a straight up ska punk band as they have a sound that is a fusion of ska, punk, two tone, drum & bass, reggae and dub with the lyrical flow of hip hop. The Rebellion Festival will be taking place at Blackpool Winter Gardens between the 2nd & 5th August 2018, you can view the full line up & purchase tickets for this years festival here. You can read about what to expect from Popes Of Chillitown at the 2018 Rebellion Festival below

Is this your first experience of the Rebellion Festival or have you played before?

I think it’s our fourth time this year? It’s pretty cool that it’s become a staple part of our summer.

What can we look forward to from your set?

Well we’ve just released a new album this year so we’ll have one or two tunes to play from that alongside the older stuff. Generally a big sweaty moshy knees-up, both on and off the stage. Umm what else.. pyrotechnics. And giant inflatable pigs.

What makes the Rebellion Festival special for you?

Being able to see a bunch of our mates year after year playing bigger & better sets is pretty awesome. For us it’s much the same, it’s been a real treat to go from the ‘new bands’ stage up to bigger settings and still seeing more and more people come out and sing along.

Will you have the chance to catch anyone else whilst you’re there and is there anyone else on the bill you’d recommend people go and see?

Definitely as many of our buds as possible, Millie Manders & The Shutup, Skaciety, Barstool Preachers, Faintest Idea, Counting Coins, Call Me Malcolm, Bandits, The Kut, Traits.. all great bands and brilliant humans.

If you could pick one band to appear at the Rebellion Festival who would it be?

Converge would be sweet.

Do you have a favourite memory from a previous Rebellion Festival?

To be fair, every time we’ve played it’s kind of topped the last in terms of us being blown away by how many people have turned up to see us, and then how many don’t know us but still have a bit of a boogie. Also, Wonk Unit’s set last year was pretty damn good.

Are you currently on tour if so where else are you playing this year?

We’re doing a bunch of dates with Fishbone while they’re over here which we’re super stoked about. Aside from that we’ve got a bunch of shows lined up all over the country really, wherever’ll have us!

What can we look forward to from you in the next twelve months?

Definitely more touring, more jaunts over to see our friends in Europe, and we may well have some new tunes on the brew before long too..

Do you have any festival survival tips?

Survival? Is that the goal?

Is there anything else in Blackpool you’d recommend people experience whilst they’re in the town?

The veggie breakfast at the Black Cauldron I can definitely vouch for.

Finally when and where are you appearing?

Saturday 11:30pm on the Pavilion. Be there!

Thanks for taking the time to speak to us, we’ll see you down the front

See *you* down the front! Thanks!
