Guts For Starters is the debut album from Smoking Gives You Big Tits that will be released on the 28th July via streaming platforms and on limited edition red opaque vinyl. The band will also release lead single and debut video, Porky Pies, on the 14th July via streaming platforms. Guts for Starters is a miscellany of joy, rage and the ridiculous. It is an ode to the Manchester, UK DIY music scene, where the seeds of this album, and band, were first encouraged and nurtured. It’s also a celebration of DIY music scenes around the world that build communities of creativity, joy and inclusivity. Those communities give us the guts to be ourselves, find our voice, and start musical projects we never thought would be possible. But best of all, they connect like-minded creative weirdo’s, who find there is somewhere they belong and there was all along.

Smoking Gives You Big Tits were an acoustic two piece from Salford and Bolton that formed in 2019, they then became their current four piece line up in 2021. A high energy riot grrrl influenced post punk band that don’t quite fit into one musical genre, they’re the love child of Bikini Kill and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer. The aim of Smoking Gives You Big Tits was to make cathartic music that facilitated high octane performance, humour, or both, swinging from politically charged rage to the ridiculous. Each band member has worked with at least one other band member on a range of other musical projects spanning from big band jazz to Mexican Americana to metal. But never before have all four members worked on something together. The band will be playing festivals across the Summer, including Crapfest, Rebellion Festival and Hello & Hoof Fest, with headlining shows to follow as the temperatures drop.

“We’re really excited to be self-releasing our debut album. We did think about having a launch show in Barry’s front garden in Gosport but the dates didn’t work for us to travel. We’ve still not ruled out a Barry from Smash Hits Magazine album. We’re also really excited for the release of Porky Pies, a single from our upcoming album. This is the first track we’ve shot a music video for. We filmed this as one shot, in one take, in the dark, at double speed. Not everything went to plan, but we kind of like that idea. We have another video we are super excited about coming out later in the summer that involves turning us into 90s arcade game fighters. We were inspired after seeing the amazing art work for our album by the supremely talented Mark Bell.”
