Born in New York City and raised on its streets and in its clubs, Sonny Vincent shot to infamy in protopunk fire-starters Testors who from ’75 to ’79 were attitude-laden fixtures on the CBGB‘s and Max’s Kansas City scenes alongside the likes of The Cramps, Dead Boys and Suicide. Now the New York rock ‘n roll legend is back with a brand new single and video, The End Of Light, that is taken from his forthcoming new album, Snake Pit Therapy.
In a career spanning more than four decades and 28 albums, and carving out a CV that reads like a travelogue of US alternative rock and punk, Vincent’s incendiary brand of rock’n’roll didn’t appear out of nowhere: he’s taken everything life has dealt him, in and out of homes for bad kids, committed to the psych ward and forcibly conscripted into a tour of duty in Vietnam courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corp. It’s all set out cold and bare in his recent memoir that shares its name with his new album.
All that and yet he still refuses to compromise: Snake Pit Therapy finds Vincent calling in the services of fellow NYC vets to deliver 15 cuts of raw, real-deal blazing, melodic protopunk laced with mind-bending psych and bruising hard rock, all taken to the edge with Vincent’s secret weapons: the naked aggression in his passionate voice and his trademark caustic guitar.
You can stream The End Of Light via Spotify and Snake Pit Therapy can be pre-ordered via Svart Records
