Pull up your tube socks and whack on your Dickies shorts, Australia’s Swelbow are back with their new single, Sally Runs Away, via streaming platforms. Produced by Cam Murphy at Opaque Audio, the track is a continuation of their last EP but pushing the boundaries of sonics and songwriting. Sally Runs Away is a classic blue collar coming of age story, the trials and tribulations of youth, the heartbreaks, and the car that doesn’t start. It’s a snapshot of real life in small-town Australia. At the end of the day, there’s always a good swell happening somewhere out yonder. With Sally Runs Away, Swelbow prove that the spirit of Skate Punk is alive and well in Western Australia.
Swelbow are the Generation Z that see the mid 2000 with a different sense of nostalgia, perhaps seeing some things in Punk Rock that have been left behind that we should have kept. Formed in Mandurah, a surfy town about forty-five minutes south of Perth, The band’s songs tackle everything from surfing and working to drinking, girls, and monkeys that teach kung fu. Its everyday life turned into noisy catharsis, always tongue-in-cheek and authentic to who they truly are. At its core, Swelbow is about having fun. They’re not trying to reinvent punk, they’re bringing back the energy and humour that made it great in the first place.

““If the last EP sounded like the 90’s, we’ve just entered the new millennium boys. We came in with shit ideas from our Iphones and the track came out actually sounding like a proper song. It’s been long days, a lot of tins, and just pure fun recording fast music. So many bands take themselves way too seriously. We just want to have fun and make loud, fast music that people can party to.”
