The Fall were an Post Punk band, formed in Manchester, UK in 1976, the band existed in various forms until the death of its founder, and only constant member, Mark E. Smith in 2018. Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group’s music underwent several stylistic changes over the years, but is often characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition. The Fall‘s 16th full length, Middle Class Revolt, was originally released in 1994 and is now set to get a six disc expanded reissue on the 27th June courtesy of Cherry Red Records. This expanded edition contains the original album as well as singles, remixes, a John Peel session and three live shows from the era. Middle Class Revolt, as with the other Fall reissues, has been compiled in conjunction with Fall expert Conway Patton and has notes by Fall guru Daryl Easlea.
The Fall are noted for its prolific output having released over 25 studio albums, and more than triple that counting live albums and other releases. They never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, although they maintained a strong cult following over their 42 year existence. The band were long-associated with BBC disc jockey John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career, his classic quote “they are always different, they are always the same” will always remain the perfect description of the band.
