There’s no denying that the term ‘punk rock’ is horrendously over-used these days. It’s used to describe so many different facets of life, yet few are actually deserving of this prestigious title. The Lovely Eggs, however, are punk rock. They are punk rock to their very core. The Lancaster based duo are true outsiders who have built their own fiercely independent world to operate within, yet they constantly aim to kick outside of it and change things for the better. New single ‘Death Grip Kids‘ is The Lovely Eggs at their most punk rock. Kicking and screaming and stamping their way through three minutes of righteously pissed off fury.
“Death Grip Kids is about fighting for something you believe in and not giving up. We’ve spent the last 6 years fighting to save Lancaster Music Co-op- a non profit making rehearsal rooms and recording studio in the centre of Lancaster. We both hung out there as teenagers and formed bands, it was a melting pot of alternative subculture in the city and when the council tried to evict us, it was worth fighting for.” (drummer David Blackwell)
“The Co-op is a place where you can go to form any band you like, with no rules. It’s total freedom and we had to fight to protect that. But it took 5 years for the council to actually do anything! We felt it was a ploy to tire us out and make us give up. But we wouldn’t give up and we still won’t now. Everyone needs to protect underground culture in their own backyard. And Death Grips kids is about that. The endless bureaucratic bullshit they make you wade through in order to reach paradise.” (singer & guitarist Holly Ross)
