On Tuesday, August 9, The Taqwacores, a film based on the novel written by author Michael Muhammad Knight, will premiere in London, England at the Ritzy Brixton. The movie features a soundtrack of American Muslim punk band The Kominas.
The film focuses on first-generation American college student Yusef (Bobby Naderi), and the experiences he goes through living off-campus in Buffalo, NY. Yusef, who was born to Pakistani parents, is exposed to the Taqwacore ideology; a hardcore punk scene that Muslim-Americans follow and only exists in the U.S. West Coast.
