With a band name that already serves as a commitment, Hamburg’s This Time For Real have released their debut single, Hanging On, in which the young singer Fee Van Deelen sorts her emotional chaos through Paramore energy and Phoebe Bridgers intimacy. This Time For Real is the reaction to a time when introspection is often neglected, even though it is urgently needed, and their debut single embodies this approach clearly, telling the story of profound self-awareness in a melancholic sound.
The quartet largely knows each other from childhood days. Drummer Gerrit Skott, bassist Philipp Ebener and guitarist Arne Thamer grew up in northern Germany’s Buxtehude. The idea of making music together had been in the air for a while, but it wasn’t until Thamer met singer Van Deelen by chance that things really started to move. Fee has been active as a solo artist for some time. Her music is driven by gently swirling electronic arrangements, layered with emotions of introspection and urgency. What may sound counterintuitive for a pop-punk band is precisely the cornerstone for This Time For Real‘s unique sound.
