Getting Dumber Present “Dried Flowers” From Upcoming “Just A Second” EP
Perth trio, Getting Dumber struck the local scene in late 2022 putting their own spin on melody and power-chord driven punk…
Greensboro, NC group Totally Slow have announced release details for their upcoming album. The band is aiming to release their self titled effort, due out September 1, 2013 on Self Aware Records. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Hicks expresses his enthusiasm:
“The first record I bought was an Agent Orange EP, and I learned to play guitar with that record… From there I got into the Faction and Adolescents and Germs and Circle Jerks and all of that west coast punk stuff that was influenced quite a bit by skate culture and I think less directly surf music, but it all mushes together… In the early ‘90s things were blowing up in Chapel Hill (I’m from Durham) and I got really into the weird melancholy pop vibe of stuff like Polvo and Archers of Loaf and Superchunk. And somewhere in the middle of all that, I was way into all the Fugazi and Unwound records (and still am). Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes. That’s my shit.”
“When we started making this record it felt like a lot of the punk/hardcore stuff I was seeing get made was so serious and high-minded and I wanted to make a record that felt opposite of that, more reckless and fun… I think the words I used were ‘flying down a shitty paved road on an old skateboard with no shoes on.’ We sped things up and turned up the distortion a bit. Kris made me cuss more and get mad. But I also want to make music you can dance to.”
