Weatherstate give you their Top 5 tips for things to do and see (besides watching bands) at Bristol’s Booze Cruise Festival. The Bristol natives play the Friday of the very first Bristol Booze Cruise Festival that takes place over the weekend of 24th to 26th May. Weatherstate join the likes of Bong Mountain, Cultdreams, Apologies, I Have None and many more at the festival’s first venture onto UK soil. Having become a must-attend event in Hamburg over the last few years, the Booze Cruise Festival will hit Bristol for the first time for a celebration of all things punk rock.

Tickets for the Bristol Booze Cruise Festival can be purchased here

Check out Weatherstate‘s Medicate video & their top tips for all Bristol first-timers below

1. THAT big bridge (Clifton Suspension Bridge)
It may be a bit of an obvious landmark and structure associated with Bristol city. However it has one of the best views in the city once you are up there! It was built on Avon Gorge to connect Clifton to Leigh Woods back in the old years but most importantly, i think it was built to harness every ladybird in Bristol and test your fear of heights. There is a toll to cross it in a car of 1 british pound put in place by the man.

2. Specialist Subject Records at The Exchange
Probably my fave record store in the area. They have recently moved into the upstairs of The Exchange. The label itself has one of the strongest and most diverse rosters within the punk community. Definitely some really unique records here aswell and some banging finds.

3. Tinnies in Castle Park
Almost an essential experience to be had in Bristol of course. On a warm spring day you can find yourself feeling “parched” somewhat. Naturally you will find yourself sitting on a bit of grass soaking in the sun whilst quenching your first. The site of Castle Park historically stood as Bristols original shopping area, however it was destroyed in Blitz of the second world war. It now is a space of pure-chill and good-vibes surrounded by some nice trees and the harbour <3.

4. Stokes Croft
Just north of the Bearpit in Bristol city centre is what i would describe as Bristol’s sub-culture hub. Gloucester road leads into the area known as Stokes Croft. An area i made myself quite familiar with back in 2011 when i originally moved into the city. It’s essentially just a really long road tied to the city centre with bars, restaurants, independent and second hand shops. It was once home to “The Croft” (RIP) which is where we cut our teeth as musicians. It’s now however know as Crofters Rights. I remember i once saw a very tall man demolish a cheesy chips whilst simultaneously holding half a portion of the stringy cheese in his beard right on the street corner there. Good times.

5. You&Meow
I’ve only been recently became aware of this place in the past year and have visited it only once. But it’s a spot i’m very fond of returning to. It’s essentially a Bristol’s first “Cat Cafe”. They even have cute little names for the drinks on the menu. There has been some really positive stories coming out of the place such as the heroic struggle of a little black kitten named Peanut (he’s probably massive now) who’s life wasn’t looking likely in his young age. He is now happy and healthy as a resident of the cafe. Anyway, It’s well worth a go if you’re near The Hippodrome. Probably the least punk rock on the list but there we are..
