Goodbye - Havoc Underground
69 Fingers is a band that is heavily influenced by punk rock, ska with a dash of rock ‘n roll. Formed in 1997 by members of the Pride Of Capital High and Sweet B.A.S.T.A.R.D., the original lineup was seven members strong, with digits that only added up to sixty-nine. The band valued making music with your friends more than anything and therefore many members came and went over the years. Regardless of this, the core of the band remained consistent, and after two tours, a full length and two EPs, the band decided to leave their home of Charleston, West Virginia and relocated to Orlando, Florida in 2004. The band continued playing shows, touring and recorded another two albums. In 2020 the band signed with Havoc Underground and have now released their latest album “Goodbye“
Starting with ‘The End Of The Beginning‘ you are hit by some prime feel good ska punk, and it just doesn’t relent, there are darker and more sensitive moments present on “Goodbye“, but the upbeat energetic vibe of the album is always lurking just round the corner. 69 Fingers are something of hybrid, their sound is littered with some of the best elements of the better known bands that surfed in on the third wave of ska, and maybe this is what’s giving me a mental itch that I just can’t scratch. If there’s a fault with 69 Fingers is that everything is very familiar and there is a well established formula present on “Goodbye“, if you’re a lover of the likes of Less Than Jake, Goldfinger and the early recordings by Mad Caddies then listening to “Goodbye” will be like the embrace of an old friend, this is authentic old school ska punk that doesn’t disappoint, they might not be bringing anything new to the party but they’d still be welcome.
