Budweiser And Butter - Horn And Hoof Records

Hummer have been around since 2004, they originally went by the name of S.F.R. until they adopted their current moniker in 2008. After periods of inactivity and a shuffling of responsibilities within the line up Hummer started getting into gear in 2015, the new material they crafted became their debut release, 2016’s Work. Home. Bed. EP, and now Hummer are set to release their debut full length, Budweiser And Butter, today, the 30th March, via Horn And Hoof Records.

Straight out of the traps the opening track, Daisies, smacks you between the eyes with an opening blast of punk rock intensity, and if Budweiser And Butter contained eight variations along this theme I’d be happy enough, but instead Hummer‘s debut full length flits between melodic hardcore, Celtic influenced punk rock, raw pop punk and good fashioned punk rock. With Budweiser And Butter Hummer have released an eight track album that carries all the hallmarks of classic Californian punk rock, which is no mean feat for a band from the distinctly damper climate of Warrington, UK.

Hummer have a unique sound that is born of some revered punk bands, their sound lies somewhere between the in your face hardcore of Leatherface, the infectious pop punk of No Use For A Name, Rancid‘s gravel voiced punk rock and NOFX‘s brand of punk irreverence, and yes that combination is just as good as it sounds. Whilst Budweiser and Butter never quite reaches the height of the opening track, Daisies, that’s more of a reflection of just how good that song is, rather than a criticism of the album. Hummer are now in gear and rolling and the release of Budweiser And Butter indicates that they are a band whose time is finally here fourteen years after their formation.
