White Knuckle Ride - Self Released
Orange County pop punk veterans Wank have been busy in the studio recording their latest full length with their longtime friend Chris Shiflett of Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and Foo Fighters, the result of these sessions have now been revealed as the band released their new album, White Knuckle Ride, earlier this month. Wank have returned with the majority of their original line up, including founding members Bobby Amodeo, Spider and Danny Walker, along with the new addition of Higgins X-13, formerly of The Offspring.
Remington is the first loop on White Knuckle Ride with the kind stripped down vintage ska punk that just puts a smile on your face, the eleven tracks on offer provide a surprisingly mellow feel good journey through the realms of ska punk. The likes of Blue Skies, Sweet Music and Believe It are perfect summery skank anthems, Shut You Down, Won’t Let Go and We Wanna Rock are vintage ska punk, whilst the likes of Salvation, Rollin’ On and It Was You offer a slightly harder edged feel that brings to mind a mellow Social Distortion, finally White Knuckle Ride comes to an end with the anthemic mellow skank of Forgiveness, my personal highlight from Wank‘s latest full length.
Wank have returned with a solid album but it’s one that doesn’t live up to it’s title, White Knuckle Ride‘s ska punk is more of an uplifting feel good album, but if you put aside discrepancies between the album’s title and it’s content this is a solid return from the SoCal veterans. Just to add a final note of caution, sometimes a band’s name causes you problems when trying to do a bit of research before typing out the review, Wank are undoubtedly amongst that number, I’d just use the link I’ve handily included below.
