American Eyes

Self-Titled - Dental Records

American Eyes will always be a historical band cornering this website. Why you ask? Well simply because they were the very first band to ever appear in our Local Spotlight section. As soon as we decided to put up that small section focusing well deserved attention to local bands we knew immediately that American Eyes would be in it. The reason for us putting them up there is none other then there phenomenal self-titled release that blew us away as soon as we heard it.

When you first look at American Eyes you immediately think of bands like The UsedAFI and My Chemical Romance simply due to their attire. I mean, there not too many bands out there that actually credit their makeup artists in their CDs, but American Eyes do. In reality, American Eyes can easily be compared to the latter of the three aforementioned bands: My Chemical Romance. They sound very similar to one another: catchy, jumpy, darker lyrics, and a nice blend of pop and emo without being whiny or screamo.

The standout tracks by far belong to Knife Fight WIth A GirlRadioWith With The Broken Heart (By The Way) and the best on the album – Telephones Wires (Turn Me On) – but even though they are the stronger songs there aren’t many weak songs that bring it down either. The only truly weak song is My Blood Is Cold. It is a short song lasting only a minute that is slowed down to a pace where it hurts the momentum and flow of the album and then they ruin it even more with around 2 minutes of screeching noises. But other then that, and the few dead air tracks like the four second Unlucky Silence (With Lip Gloss), the rest of the album flows beautifully.

Any fan of the ever prominent My Chemical Romance will shake in their knees after hearing this album. It is an extremely fun album, with only one evident weak song, that will get you singing along in no time. So pick it up for cheap before you have to dish out twenty bucks for the re-release on a major.
