From Here And On - Epitaph Records
This Swedish five-piece punk rock band have created an amazing punk rock album here with From Here And On. This album is full of catchy tunes, riffs and lyrics, with only really 2 slightly disappointing songs, both of which start of the CD. They open with a introduction song called Intro DTPR. First off, I have no idea what the DTPR stands for, if any of you know, e-mail me so I can get it off my mind. Sometimes I believe that it is a good idea to have a introduction to your album, but this one was done effectively. It is slow and incredibly soft, so you have to have the speakers cranked up to hear it. One example of a really good introduction would be the one from Dropkick Murphys‘ latest album, Live On St. Patrick’s Day. That introduction is done really well, getting louder and louder then heading straight into the song. The second slightly disappointing song is the second song, Begging For Mercy. It starts off with like someone pounding metal or something, they have tried to go slightly harder on this song then the rest of the CD, which did not turn out good.
On My Way comes in third on the album is one of my favorites. This is a great powerful song. With great guitar parts through out. It is about someone just going around looking for adventure, it is just done really well. Especially when they slow it done for the last verse, and then pick it up once again very effectively. Another one of my favorites is the CD-titled one, From Here And On. You can find this in the fifth position on the CD. This song is a bit slower then the previous one. It is all about fighting through hard times and not giving up. After all, “From Here, You Can Only Go Forward“. At around the 2 minute mark, they power in a great drum beat for 30 seconds, then it all stops for the chorus to be sung. This song is just done incredibly well and has a very powerful message behind it.
Track 8 is another spectacular one, and it goes by the name of My Own War. This once again has a powerful message behind it, it is a slight cliché, but hey, they even say that it is in the song! It is all about just not complaining and fighting your own battles. It starts off with a great drum beat and soon enters the bass and guitars. then the vocals come in for the first verse. This song is another fantastic one fromBombshell Rocks, although it is nothing compared to my favorite song on the album, Cheated Again. This is the final track on the CD and just ends it beautifully. It is the longest song, clocking in at 4:15 and also the slowest. It has probably one of the most catchy vocals I’ve heard in a long time, probably because they are almost the same ones repeated over and over again. The tune is just quite simply spectacular. It is slow and incredibly catchy, slightly hard to explain. The lyrics are all about someone who keeps getting cheated out of stuff because he plays by the rules and is actually nice. It is just an absolutely amazing way to top of this album!
Some other good songs of the album which deserver to be mentioned are the ones like Warpath, Out of The Cold, Crossroads and Dream, Dream, Dream. All of which are fantastic songs with great tunes and catchy vocals. Almost every song has great meaning behind them, with a lesson about live and just living it.
