Drop Dead, Gorgeous

In Vogue - Suretone Records

Well, this is interesting, I didn’t even think people were still willing to send me music, or music like this anyway’s. Someone could simply tell me the title of the band and I’d already guess that I’d probably not like it. But this band actually took me a little by surprise, I was expecting something really poppy and reminiscent of perhaps Crash Romeo. But they aren’t, which I am grateful for, instead they sound like something I maybe would have liked a year ago. I will admit that the band, instrumentally, is pretty good, the guitarists play some pretty wild riffs and make some pretty cool noises. The drummer plays a pretty decent beat with some nifty double-kick patterns, and the bass player seems to be the main force behind the breakdowns. But I despised the vocals, they fell into the whole “screamo” trend thing, where there’s screaming to make the guys feel like they’re gnarly for listening to this music. Then there’s some singing to bring in people with a love for these so-called “melodic” moments. I’m getting tired of these bands too, there should be a population carrying capacity for them, at some point they should stop making money because there’s so many exactly like them. But I guess people might actually really like this music, it’s baffling, there all the same. I didn’t get the lyrics with the cd, but I’m just going to go right ahead and guess that they’re probably generic and about love or bleeding or bleeding love. I’m not really sure how you’d go about bleeding love, although I have a feeling that it’s a metaphor for something I’ve never cared to look into. Not that this band writes about bleeding love, as I mentioned in a previous sentence, I don’t even know what their lyrics are. I’ll probably never know either, I doubt I’ll listen to this cd ever again, I have so much music that I simply do not want to waste my time on something as generic as Drop Dead, Gorgeous.

Which brings me to my next point, I’m sure a lot of you crazy kids out there will probably enjoy this cd. I did not like it, but I’ve started to realize that my musical tastes are superior to what is enjoyed by all of you mere mortals. I’m still not even really sure what genre this band even falls into, but I can tell you what genres it doesn’t fall into; metal, hardcore, and screamo. Therefore, if you have dug into any of those genres and know a thing or two about your music, don’t bother checking this band out, it will infuriate you(metal isn’t songs by Slayer, hardcore isn’t 18 Visions, and a good example of a screamo band is not Silverstein). But like usual, if you want, this band is all over the internet(myspace, etc.).
