Destroy - Cats Claw Records
Canadian pop punksters (hate that cliche, but if it fits) Hangtime have put together this seven track EP ‘Destroy’ and will be releasing it on Sept 25th, it will also be available as a Blue cassette tape (novel if you have a tape player), anyway this is besides the point, novel and fun is exactly what the doctor ordered, summer is coming to a close, what we all need is a pick me up to get us through the autumn months, this is were Hangtime come in!
The title track gives away nothing really, ‘Destroy’ is a 17 second explosion fest that actually has nothing to do with what follows, well maybe a little, seems as what your given is an explosive sound that fills your ears with sing a long songs like ‘Too Many days’ which strikes more of All rather than Descendents in its melodic stance, then there is ‘When We Were Young’ a song that really hits home to all us who wish we could keep when things were simple and nothing really mattered other than listening to music, skating and maybe dating.
What Hangtime certainly do in the 7 track EP, is give a sense of longing for times gone by, or do they really bring it all back with a thump to those who never grew up I the first place? Love songs, reminiscing, wishing for nothing more than friendship and uncomplicated times, that’s what this brings, nothing more nothing less.
Finishing off with ‘Radio Don’t Care’ sits perfectly with those of us who wish for a time when radio in general, gave something more than generic churned out R&B drivel, a radio that played music that actually we want to hear, not what they think we want to hear, with the simple use of the Descendents “everything sucks” thrown in there, it hits the so called nail on the head. I just wish that nail was real and it was hammered into the lid of the coffin that radio as it is, should be in.
Old Skool pop/punk that strives to be nothing other than great!
