Manchester Punk Festival have released the 37th volume of their compilation series ahead of this year’s festival. Manchester Punk Festival Vol. 37 is…
Take This To Your Grave - Fueled By Ramen Records
A band, just over the age of one have made a 12 song CD on Fueled By Ramen Records. This same band have captured the heart and soul of music lovers whenever they get played. On the radio, MP3.com, on the sampler with Less Then Jake or even hearing clips through the other side of the phone, wherever it may be, people are falling in love with the sound. The band is Fall Out Boy. A quartet out of Chicago. The CD is Take This To Your Grave and it is in stores on May 6th 2003, and you definitely should get yourself a copy of it as soon as you can.
The sound itself is hard to describe without hearing it. It is pop-punk at it’s finest. Mixing intoxicating rhythms with smooth, silky and catchy vocals, there is something for everyone in here. Weather it has screaming background vocals like in the fourth song, Saturday, or a powerful mix of all instruments like the chorus of Grenade Jumper or even everything stopping except for vocals which heightens in intensity for the beginning of Grand Theft Autumn (Where Is Your Boy). There truly is something there for each and every person.
Opening the album is “Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today”. It starts off with a heavy drum beat then the guitars and bass comes in and slows it down for a bit before the vocals make an appearance. The song is a great one to open the album with, introduces you to the band effectively. The second song is one of two which was on the Less Then Jake sampler passed around theCivic Tour (NFG and GC). It is another really good song with steady guitar riffs and catchy vocals. A good song but not nearly as good as the next, Grand Theft Autumn (Where Is Your Boy).
This song is my second favorite on the album. The starting off the song has no instruments at all, all it is are the vocals by Patrick Stump. You can really hear the harmonious skills in his vocal chords in this section. The lyrics are catchy and well written and the music is done fantastically. I especially like the beat they throw at you around the two minute mark. The combination of all the instruments and the timing is incredible.Saturday comes next it is a faster song, and one which you can find on the sampler or MP3.com. It is their first single and a good choice for it, although it is definitely not the best song on the album.
My absolute favorite song on the album is the final song, The Patron Saint Of Liars And Fakes. I believe the band got their CD name from the final set of lyrics in the song “Take this to your grave and I’ll take it to mine“. I find it hard to describe the song. It just blows me away, especially the chorus, I just love it.
Overall, this young band will make a major impact on the music scene with the release if this album. There is not really a down point in the album. Although, like all pop-punk albums, all the songs have a slight similarity to one another. It will most likely be on the top 10 lists of many people this year.
