The Weaker We Get... - Dark City Records

Wow. That’s really all there is to say about Dark City Records‘ Kill Crush Destroy and their full length, The Weaker We Get…. They are harsh, abrasive, angry, hardcore punk straight from the streets of New York. They are pissed off, young and urgent, spitting out over a dozen songs in less than twenty minutes; without one reaching the two minute mark, the CD just blows by and leaves you wondering what happened.

Each and everyone of these songs are fast and unrelenting with chaotic screams and angry yells full to the brim of the classic “fuck you” lyrics. There’s the classic chugging guitar with feedback and distortion played into that makes hardcore fans so pleased, but with some more of their own inventiveness snuck into it like heavy breakdowns and head banging beats to get their fans dancing in the pit. The music doesn’t seem to follow any formula and can be a little sporadic at times, but when all the songs do that, it seems to fit.

I’m not a purveyor of the hardcore genre, as most of it doesn’t appeal to me, so right away The Weaker We Get… takes a solid hit back. But it is actually playable, very raw and in your face that actually is a nice breath of fresh air at times and makes for a good spin every once in a while. The production is done really well, leaving the ferocity in the music with a raw feel to it rather then slicked back and smooth. Fans ofMaximum RNR, Dear Tonight and other quick, raspy hardcore bands will love this CD because Kill Crush Destroy does exactly what their name says: kill, crush and destroy.
