Matchbook Romance

Stories and Alibis - Epitaph Records

Matchbook Romance are back with Stories and Alibis, their follow-up to their popular EP, West For Wishing. Mixing 12 songs of emotional hard-core piano driven music (along with one instrumental) together, you know that this is a album which will not let you down in anyway at all. Each song as a certain power to it, whether its a heavy, heard hitting song or a slower, soft song; each has a high degree of passion within them. The thing which makes them stand out? The vocals and lyrics by Andrew Jordan.

Hearing Andrew’s rendition of the words he wrote down remind you off what lyrics should be. They should be heartfelt, they should be passionate and should be believable. And that is what Matchbook Romance has done. The backup vocals by Judas Depaolo and Ryan Kienle come blasting in at the perfect time, never becoming overpowering; but instead aiding Andrew portray his thoughts and emotions even more with a scream here or there.

Musically, they are a band which is hard to classify. They could be a mix of Taking Back Sunday and Something Corporate with a dash of Thrice and Finch on the side. The guitar hooks and bass melodies are mixed in together with some help from David Palmer on keyboards and Aaron Stern on drums. The melodies fix perfectly with the harmonies sung by Andrew.

The band has created an album which is full of powerful and sincerity. It’s one that will not soon be forgotten.
