This Disaster (Live In London) [DVD] - Drive-Thru Records / Geffen Records
New Found Glory, one of the premier pop-punk acts around today recently recorded themselves performing live in London, This Disaster is that show. Not only is this that live performance, but the DVD is also chop full of cool bonus features. Let’s take a look at what you’ll be able to find on it.
The live performance features 19 of the band’s songs spanning most of their career. Fan favorites like Understatement, Hit Or Miss, Something I Call Personality, Dressed To Kill, My Friends Over You, Forget My Name, and All Downhill From Here all make an appearance.New Found Glory have a reputation of being a great live band, and they keep up that reputation here. They throw tons of energy into it and give it their all, especially Jordan. His vocals are strong and sound like they do on the recordings. They don’t do much banter, just bust out song after song of punk rock, which makes for a solid performance.
The image quality of the recording is very similar to that of the recent Something Corporate live DVD. It is clear and not grainy at all, but can be a bit dark at times. You rarely see the cameramen in the background, and you get hundreds of different angles. It does seem to be a bit erratic at times though, shaking widely and flying around with no control; it would be better if was a bit steadier, but you can’t expect perfection.
By now you’re probably wondering why the DVD is called This Disaster. It is because during the middle of their performance, nearing the end of Dressed To Kill, then power in the venue shut off and it took 45 minutes to get it back working again. That is what the This Disaster section features, it shows what they were doing during that 45 minute period. Of course, they don’t show the entire 45 minutes, but instead show the more important parts of them trying to do anything they can do to entertain the crowd. Luckily, they were able to get Jordan’s microphone working a bit along with a keyboard, with that they played My Friends Over You. There is no word to describe what goes on next, the best word is beautiful. Jordan goes up to the barrier and starts singing, and instantly the crowd starts singing in unison. It is an amazing sight of true unity and appreciation. After that, they were able to get an acoustic guitar to lay an acoustic version of I Don’t Wanna Know before they get the power back up.
For bonus features, This Disaster has a 10 minute photo gallery, 2 acoustic performances, and then some random footage of the band messing around, all of which would be fun to watch if you were a hugeNew Found Glory fan. Which is the basic overview of the entire DVD really, a casual fan probably wouldn’t be interested in it much, but a huge fan would love it.
