Single Review: The Blankz – Getting Over You

Slope Records have released Getting Over You, the fifth single in the ongoing series of nine by Phoenix power pop punkers, The Blankz. Once all nine in the series have been issued a full length compilation comprised of the singles plus their artwork will be released, for those who can’t wait the steady drip feed of single continues. So far The Punk Site has covered all four of The Blankz previous single releases, they’ve issued an impressive quartet of single that leaves Getting Over You with a lot to live up to. So have The Blankz lived up to the promise of their previous releases? the short answer is yes, carry on reading for the longer version.

Getting Over You continues with The Blankz revved up power pop punk, the a-side has the best Ramones chord changes coupled with the drive of the likes of The Methadones and Screeching Weasel, this is coupled with the new wave influences that have started to become The Blankz trademark. As ever the b-side carries a slightly different feel to the a-side whilst retaining all the best elements of their previous releases, Barfly returns to Dee Dee Ramone riffing, not as subtle or infectious as Getting Over You but no less essential. Getting Over You marks the half way mark in The Blankz series of single releases, so far it’s five by five, with four more singles due in 2019 The Blankz are a band I’m looking forward to hearing a lot more from in the new year.
