Still Takin' The Mick - Self Released
The Eddies formed back in 1994, since then they have toured their native Scotland and the North of England with pretty much everyone currently on the UK punk scene and to date they have released two albums, 1999’s Panic and 2001’s Who Are You?, and they are now set to release their new EP, Still Takin’ The Mick, when they play the 2018 Rebellion Festival Arena Stage on Thursday 2nd August at 1.30PM BST, which is exactly the time this review is scheduled to be published, so if you’re reading this as it appears on The Punk Site you know exactly where both myself and The Eddies are at this exact moment in time.
The opening salvo on The Eddies latest release is No Way, a no holds barred blast of punk rock and roll that means I’m guaranteed to be in the Arena Stage for their set unless something has gone horribly wrong, the second hit is My Game My Rules, another full tilt anthem of driven punk rock. My personal highlight from the Still Takin’ The Mick EP is Nowhere, a politically barbed number directed towards those in power and the EP is rounded out by another pair of heavy hitters in the shape of One Of These Days and the EP’s title track.
The Eddies latest EP is one that will appeal to fans of the old school, but whilst this is firmly rooted in the history of the UK punk rock scene this has a contemporary feel that aligns them with the likes of fellow DIY punks Dogtown Rebels. If you’re at this years Rebellion Festival then I recommend you pick up a copy of the Still Takin’ The Mick EP, if you’re not fortunate enough to be attending hopefully The Eddies will make this impressive five track EP generally available in the near future.
