Single Review: The Linden Method – Thin Skin EP

Chicago’s The Linden Method are a four piece skate punk outfit that was founded in 2012, their latest release, the Thin Skin EP, follows on from their two previous EP’s, 2012’s Things We Were and 2014’s Falling Short, and their debut full length, 2016’s Good Enough. The Linden Method‘s latest EP is a release that deals with the way that everyone in society seems to be too afraid to stand up for anything because they’re afraid of receiving any sort of criticism.

Thin Skin kicks straight into gear with the EP’s title track, a song that was premiered on The Punk Site earlier this month, and it’s an obvious choice for a single as it’s pulls you straight into the EP with it’s hooks and slight pop punk edge. Desensitivity kicks things up a gear, all the qualities of the opening track are present but the intensity is upped and is carried along through Straight Shot, Obey and The Inevitable Heat Death Of The Universe, but for me the Thin Skin EP saves it’s finest moment for last with the short cathartic punk rock fuck you of This Song Is About You.

The Linden Method are a band that have improved with every release, and Thin Skin is no exception as this is undoubtedly the band’s finest release to date. This is a solid EP of punk rock and skate punk that is bookended by two songs that are up there with some of the best tracks I’ve heard this year, as a result the Thin Skin EP is a release that I’d recommended to any fan of old school skate punk, and to those that have a love for the heavier end of pop punk.
