Deathless - Venn Records

Fresh from completing a brief tour of the UK, the London based cosmic punk outfit WACO have announced their return to recording with the imminent release of their new EP, Deathless, that is set for release through Gallows label, Venn Records, tomorrow, the 2nd June 2017. The quartet, that originally hail from the weirder nooks of the UK, came together through their animalistic compulsion to make noise and their shared goal to brainwash the masses with their relentless optimism, and Deathless certainly lives up to their lofty ambitions

Mother Mercy opens with a guitar riff that recalls The Only Ones ability to raise the hairs on the back of your neck, after this it becomes an original unpredictable staccato blast of punk infused alt rock, the next track, Heavy Heart, picks you up by the scruff of the neck as it channels a solid street punk inspired punker, which is promptly followed by the raucous Coolangatta that carries the blue collar grunt of The Hold Steady. The heaviest hitter, and the EP’s finest moment, is the frenetic Feed Your Head before the final track, Best Friend, brings things to an anthemic and rocky close.

WACO have released an energetic and original EP that is the perfect follow up to their debut single, Sundown, and last years critically acclaimed Uprise EP. Deathless is an upbeat blast of a five track EP that blends the attitude and hedonism of punk with the spirit of heartland rock, along with a sprinkle of indie and psych influences, to impressive effect. The end result is an EP that is so relentlessly optimistic and infectious that it’s hard not to feel uplifted after giving it a spin, even for the most hardened cynic.
