Sinking Ships

Disconnecting - Revelation Records

I received this CD a while ago and I’ve finally found the time to write a review for it. It seems through all of the studying and reading that I’ve had to endure before my finals, I’ve also been able to find the time to listen to this CD almost exclusively. Revelation Records boasts that this band has one of the most unique sounds found in hardcore today. I must say that I agree with every word. Not only do they keep up the heritage of hardcore with fast paced riffs and drumming, they also change constantly, throwing a more melodical sound which contrasts the chugier heavier sound that most of us has grown accustomed to.

Under Favorite song I simply placed none because I can honestly say that I like every one of these songs. Not only are they all good, they have their own unique properties, from “Shadows” and “Ghost Story”, which has a slower pace compared to the faster paced songs such as “Deadlocked” and “Cheated”. Then there are songs like “The Next Time I Go” which combines both properties of the album into one beautiful sound. I know that most of this does not exactly say how this CD sounds, and by no means gives any of this album any justice. The only thing that I can say that is if you claim to listen to hardcore, you must hear this CD at least once in your life, for it truly made me re-evaluate what I listen to, and made me want to find more like it.

All in all, I highly recommend this CD, and there’s nothing else to it. I can not truly describe this album, I guess if I was forced to say anything I would say that it reminds me of the older hardcore, before hardcore was crossed with the metal sound that is in many bands today. But again, there are many bands that can be described just like that and sound different then Sinking Ships. So since this review has more or less left a blank on how this CD sounds the only thing you can do is buy it and find out for yourself, trust me when I say, you will not be disappointed.
