Switchblade

Self Titled - Deathwish Inc.

Do you remember that Nothing Nice To Say comic where Blake and Fletcher are standing in the middle of a mosh pit, and Fletcher says to Blake “Stupid hardcore band. They’ve been introducing this song for five minutes now!”, to which Blake replies, “Shh! I think they’re about to play it!”. Then there’s a box where they just stand there, then Blake says to Fletcher, “I’m sorry, I blinked. Did he just cough or was that the song?”. The whole time I was listening to Switchblade‘s self-titled EP, this comic is the only thing I could think off. Why? Well, because Fletcher basically summed up my entire feelings about this EP. They seem to introduce the song, and then never go anywhere.

The EP has six songs, and lasts 47 minutes. That’s a damn long time for only six songs. The shortest song on the EP is 5:01! Each song drags on and on and on. There isn’t ever any change of pace. Its same thing again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and then a few more times afterwards. They barely even sing. You have to wait until around seven minutes has gone by in the third track before you hear them attempt to sing. In fact, all it is is a distance scream, its too soft and just completely incomprehensible. You have to be paying an incredibly large amount of attention to it to even figure out that they are singing! Exemplifying their imaginative skills even further, they have such unique song names too! I mean, who would have ever thought of name track 1, 01, or track 2, 02. I mean, it’s pure genius!

Okay, enough with my sarcasm. The truth is, this EP is boring. Its the same thing over and over again, and it never leads anywhere. I really doubt it will ever find its way into my CD player again.
