Syteria

Syteria World - Cargo Records

Not heard of Syteria?, me neither, but I have heard of Girlschool and I’ll bet you have too, so how do we make that connection, well that would be via Jackie ‘Jax’ Chambers (Guitar/Vocal), and the influence does run through Syteria’s sound and powerhouse style, but it is just an influence, this is an album full of so many twists and turns throughout musically.

From the off, your hit with what can only be described as an out and out rock/pop anthem of a song in ‘Chasing Dreams’ a Von Trapps of a song with a similar edginess, this has got to be a single release sometime I hazard a guess, and you’ll also have this ear worm in your head for days too.

But as I pointed out earlier, this isn’t just a rock/pop album, its full of punk influence and not to mention the New Wave too, take ‘It Hit Me’ with some pretty damn razor sharp hooks and a vocal that just oozes early 80’s rock with some damn crazy new romantic bass riffs to add to the brilliance of it, talking about ear worms, there goes another right there.  ‘Monsters’ is a song that’s been given the video treatment, its definitely one of the darker songs on the album, a look a social media stalking and the music gives it that heavy eerie feel too.

With music to die for throughout this banger of an album, what you get every time you listen s a new favourite song, you’ll find yourself flipping from the likes of ‘E.M.P.T.Y’ a rock  masterclass that has a vocal that drips with sexiness, then you can have ‘Remember Me’ with a ridiculously powerful chorus and dreamy vocal, if that wasn’t enough lets try the funk filled tune that is ‘Couldn’t Be Bothered’ a “get ya hips moving” song like you’ve never heard before.

What comes through most of all in this, the bands third album Syteria World (yeah third I said, so maybe you have heard of them and I’ve just had my head in the clouds), is the fact that no matter what they have done before, this on its own would be enough for them to make it onto my “must see list”, and I would have to suggest yours too (oh, guess what? They play Rebellion Festival this year, I’m on it!).

An album full of music that hits heights other bands can just dream of, songs that give the Rock/Punk world a kick up the ass and a big old “fuck you we will keep playing and having fun doing it” vibe, it doesn’t have to be political or rage against the machine to be great in the world of Rock n Roll.

Out Via Cargo Records August 4th

Go buy it and listen to what you’re missing out on (or maybe that was just me).
