The Horrorpops

Bring It On! - Hellcat Records

Let’s get this out of the way right now. If you like The Horrorpops and their last album, Hell yeah!, then stop reading right now. Head to your nearest CD store and pick up Bring It On! The same thing goes for anyone who hates The Horrorpops. Stop reading and go do something else, because The Horrorpops have not changed. If you liked them before, then you’ll like them now. If you hated them before, then you’ll hate them now. A fairly simple concept really. The only problem is if you haven’t heard of them, then the question becomes “is this band right for you?”

Bring It On! picks up exactly with Hell Yeah! left off – with high energy psycobilly rock. Patricia Day’s distinctive voice flowing through the speakers feels the listener with joy. The strong, accented, female vocals with just the right amount of obnoxiousness makes for the perfect relief from the whiny voices we hear all too often. This, of course, is backed up by the classic twang that only a standup bass can produce. The two go-go dancers lend a hand with backup vocals and “woahs” on certain songs, which really helps pump up the energy. Songs like the explosive opener, Freaks In Uniforms, the great sing along Undefeated(My band, my friends, My life, my pride. What keeps me undefeated!) and even the slower Walk Like A Zombie all have their own special quality that helps them stick out in the album while still keeping that great psycobilly feel which is found in the rest of their songs.

Quite frankly, The Horrorpops have done it again and made a good, solid psycobilly rock album. It won’t be the number one CD in many year end lists, but it is capable of getting you dancing and singing along – which is what music is supposed to do. If you’re a fan of other pschyobilly bands – particularlyTiger Army or Nekromantix (both of who have members in this band) – then Bring It On! will be the perfect album for you.
