The Pale

Gravity Gets Things Done - SideCho Records

Bellingham, WA’s The Pale are ready to release their fourth album, their first being supported by a record label. Recorded by guitarist Cameron Nicklaus, Gravity Gets Things Done is a album which will either appeal to your as soon as you put it in, or will slowly grow on you the more you play it.

The Pale plays a type of pop-rock/pop-punk music which gets your feet taping. A slow, smooth, melodic sound with bouncy rhythms and bubbly melodies. The addition of a keyboard helps them reach that unique sound. Gabe Archer (vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player) is able to add extra depth to their music and create sounds which would be impossible to create with only a guitar. The perfect example of the bubbly, bouncy sound would be Wake-Up Call, the sixth track on the album, which even receives some help from Alana Brown on trombone.

The lyrics aren’t anything spectacular. They normally tell stories and are never extremely catchy. More often then not they are just there, only taking a step forward every once in a while. This doesn’t really affect the songs that much; although, if you are the type of person who loves to sing along with the lyrics, it does make it somewhat more difficult.

Be warned though: after playing the disc 20 times over and over again, Gravity Gets Things Done does get a bit repetitive and loses some of it’s original power. It would be wise to only listen to it a couple times, then switch to another album and then come back to Gravity… later on. Otherwise it does lose it’s originality.
