Underoath

The Changing of Times - Solid State Records

The Changing of Times, released Febuary of 2002 was a new direction for Underoath as they experimented with keyboards, futuristic sounds, insane guitar riffs and out of this world drum beats. The vocals of this new album are heavy and have a sound in style of Norma Jean. Although Underoath has always been known as a “Christian” hardcore band, this album exposes a new side to the band. The lyrics are more the emo side, but you can still taste a hint of “Christian” wording in some songs.

The album starts off with their first single, The Sun Still Sleeps which is very motivating and catchy to the ear. Track 3, A Message for Adrienne is a power ballad in the world of hardcore, with a soft beginning and a slow heavy guitar. The Changing of Times, track 5 has awesome keyboards throughout the entire song, starting with a weird sound that mixes itself into the song perfectly. Angels Below and The Best of Me have heavy keyboards fast guitars and get you moving around more. Alone In December is defiantly the way to end this album, the vocal mixing of this song are amazing and the soft smooth breakdowns flow nice to the end of the album.

The Changing of Times is a great album for anyone who enjoys screamo/hardcore sounding bands. This album was defiantly the album that lead Underoath into the mainstream hardcore music world.
