Viki Vortex And The Cumshots

Toxic Timebomb - Self Released

Viki Vortex & The Cumshots are actually a band that I know have played Rebellion more than once and yes I was at all of them, but to my detriment I never got chance to actually se them live (if you’re a Rebellion attender, you’ll definitely understand that, so many bands and not enough time to see them all), but anyway, since then I have had chance to listen to the last album An Altered State Of Mine, and yes I know that was actually album three and this is four, I intend to go back and catch up (because they are worth it).

70’s melodic punk is what this band do, or at least that’s what they say they do and I tend to agree whole heartedly, your take will be your own, but either way, its punk rock, its no messing around and they say what they want with no apologies, true to the ethos that was set out by all who came before them and themselves. Is this album any different, no, but I have to be honest this is my favourite of what I’ve heard so far, come on, when you start with a song called ‘Phone Sex’ you’re going to get some pricked up ears, wanting to know why and really! Does this thing actually still exist?, apparently it does, even in this digital age, the song starts with what is VVATC’s signature bass, growling and dirty as hell, I think the songs lyric covers what I thought, “what the hell, and why”.

Without going to stupidly into the what’s and why’s, what this album brings, is straight up punk rock with no bells and whistles, no pointless licks or riffs, chords that came straight out of the DIY handbook, and its fucking great for it, come on where else would you here a song like ‘Don’t Tell Me’ with a “slap your face with a baseball bat” lyric and a melody that just worms around in your brain.

If your bored of the over produced, over complicated punk/rock/indie, which has its place, but sometimes you just want an escape and a chance to hear the pure and dirty punk that you heard back when it first arrived, something that shits all over the judgementals and fame grabbers, religious zealots and political dogsbodies ‘Don’t Know, Don’t Care’ or ‘Screw You’ will be right up your street, and fuck they sound good too.

Yep there are loads of swear words in this album, but what else do you expect, when the ‘Bastard’s’ take the piss and abuse their power, or groups that want you to join their clan, and all you wanna do is say ‘Stuff Your Fucking Party’ I’ll do my own thing, thank fucking you!.

Is this album a monster that will eat you alive, well no not really.  Its better than that, its an album that you might right off at first listen as too harsh and unforgiving, that’s the fucking point! Over complicated shit has a place, but pure dirty Rock n Roll is so much fucking better for the soul.

It’s a Toxic Timebomb that needs to explode into your life. Out Now!
