Poppy, passionate and powerful, Cinema Stare evoke all this and more on their debut album, The Things I Don’t Need, that is set for release on May 19th via Static Era Records. The Connecticut band make pop-punk sprinkled with hints of indie rock, and a whole lot of emotion. Today they have shared Bad, which finds the band’s vibrant sound intersected with more sullen moments. The video for the song plays on the classic trope of what’s on the other side of the door, before the band comes together for a glowing performance.

“Bad is one of the first songs we wrote for the album. The song is sort of an inner analysis of my sexuality and the relationships I was having at the time. The lyrics culminated from feeling confused and like things were moving so incredibly fast that I couldn’t confront them quick enough. Looking back on how I felt when I wrote the lyrics, I can definitely see someone who was struggling to form their own identity.” (Vocalist Quinn)

The Things I Don’t Need was produced by the band with assistance from Chris Teti at Silver Bullet Studios and mastered by Adam Cichocki at Timber Studios. The songs serve as a release for past emotions and experiences, but still posses a sense of light-heartedness that comes with a pop-punk record. The band pulls influence from acts like Jimmy Eat World and The Starting Line, and also bands like Peach Pit and The Muffs. On The Things I Don’t Need, Cinema Stare have created a bouncy and heartfelt record to soundtrack your Spring. Cinema Stare have also just announced a US Spring tour alongside Indiana’s Leisure Hour.
