Hound Gawd! Records have released Keepin’ Chaos At Bay, the new album from Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders that is now available on limited edition colored vinyl and through the usual suspects. For decades, Pat Todd has trolled the dark corners and back shelves of the thrift store of Americana and honed an extraordinarily sound. The new album is full of hooks and is delivered with a brain and a heart, it distills everything Todd has learned in his long career into a genre-scoffing dose of snarling ’70s punk rock, country, blues and roots rock. While these fundamentals have always been behind the Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders’ anthemic songs, they come to full fruition on Keepin’ Chaos at Bay.

The lyrics of the fourteen track album bristles with a sense of chaos, dedication, lies & love and mystery. Also a Rankoutsiders constant are songs are filled to bursting point with grandstanding melodies, and subtle little hooks. New Originals like Why I Sing, The Company You Keep or Victim Of Dedication reminds you of his previous outlaw band, The Lazy Cowgirls, while the country-folk punker Poison Your Water infiltrates your blood, That Little Bit Of Nothin’ takes you through the ups and downs of heartbreak and desire. The cover version of Leonard Cohen‘s Tower of Song shows how well the band can rearrange this song for themselves and treat it as if it were one of their own.
