Alabama's Ghosts Among The Pines have revealed Holding On, the track is the lead single and video from the band’s…
Same As The First is Retarded‘s fourth official album and comes 25 years after their iconic first self-titled record, which over the years has become a reference point for all fans of Italian Ramonescore.
Their last full length, 2016’s Goes Louder, marked a turn toward Scandinavian galm rock sounds, bringing the band closer to bands such as Turbonegro and Gluecifer, whilst still maintaining their punk rock roots. Same As The First is a statement of intent that is clear from the title. It is both a quotation from Ramonesian memory, “first verse, same as the first”, that stands for total adherence to an essential, straightforward and superstructure free punk rock imagery, “I don’t waste my time, I’ll repeat always the same” Retarded say in the very song that gives the album its title. But it’s also a promise of a return to the roots, toward that first album that is so dear to their band’s fans.
To get the best possible result, the band relies on the production of the legendary Mass Giorgini, longtime bassist for Screeching Weasel, Squirtgun and Common Rider and producer for iconic bands such as Alkaline Trio, Rise Against and The Riverdales. The result is an extraordinary understanding that manifests itself as an in-your-face handful of power and energy. Tracks such as The Kids Have Gone and I Follow My Pride are manifestos of Ramonesian writing, while mid-tempo tracks such as My Heart Is Burning, Therapy and Funny Face are declarations of love toward the more pop side of punk rock such as The Muffs and the Look Out! Records bands of the early 90’s. There is also no shortage of episodes more closely related to rock ‘n’ roll imagery, such as the opening track Rock ‘N’ Roll Tonight, which takes Retarded back toward their wildest period.
Same As The First is now available on CD, vinyl and through digital platforms via Ammonia Records and Striped Records.
