Das Not Compute - Epitaph Records / Burning Heart Records
Division Of Laura Lee are back with their follow up to 2002’s album, Black City, entitled Das Not Compute. The eleven track album, plus one bonus song, is somewhat like the artwork for the album. Strange, indescribable, and unique.
The Swedish quartet plays a slow style of music. Blending punk and rock with some British psychedelia and Washington, DC post-punk. Per Stålberg’s vocals are smooth and constant, never making any giant leaps or bounds. They use distorted guitar riffs and fuzzy bass melodies making a sort of mixed up, murky sound; a sound you don’t hear often. Its a new look on the garage rock phenomenon that has been sweeping the nation.
Unfortunately, none of the songs really make any giant change in the speed or tone of the album. It is a easy listen, and one you can listen to many times; but it never really goes anywhere. Its just more of a background music CD.
