In The Alternate Timeline - Red Scare Industries

Any of you out there remember this band called Sicko?  Well you can be forgiven if you don’t because when this big compilation/anthology dropped into my email the reaction was Who? with a vague memory in there somewhere,  And that’s a very strange feeling when you pride yourself in being up on so many bands.

So Sicko a Punk/Rock/Pop band from Seattle, formed back in 1991 and have unbelievably to myself, spawned 4 full lengths and 5 EP’s in their long career.  Delving deeper reveals that roughly between 1993 & 1998 as well as the gigging around Seattle and the U.S. they also visited Japan and Spain.

Red Scare Industries have really pulled it out of the bag here, after first listen it begs the question why did this band not make a bigger impact around the world?

The 19 songs that have been picked out by the band to represent their back catalogue and have been remastered to give the listener a bigger experience of the music.

What an experience too, how can we describe their brand of Punk?  Its here that most reviews might start with how and which other great bands have influenced there music, who they sound like and what niche they fall into, but its here that this review takes the opportunity to say there are no comparisons needed, other than if you take all your favourite Punk/Rock/Pop/Grunge bands and chuck them into a blender then out pop Sicko!

From track to track you’re taking right back to your youth (well maybe a little later for myself), when life was so much easier and the world hadn’t thrown you so many curve balls and realising that having to work was actually a thing.  You only have to check out songs like “Where I Live”  “Bad Year”  “A Song About A Rabbit” and “On The Clock” to get the fact that these are not just a one trick pony.

Is this the right time to get a new compilation out there?

“Well, basically for the same reason as ever: it’s (nothing more than) something fun to do. Now that our kids are the ones running through the sprinklers, and there isn’t a single dateless loser left among us, we thought we’d get back into rock while we still can. The album title refers to an alternate universe in which things turned out differently, and we actually got successful. Yeah, RIGHT. We’re talking alternate timelines, not science fiction! Might as well include a flying battleship with a Wave Motion Gun as well… Truthfully, we just wanted to get together and have some fun with old friends”

Full on no holds barred Fun, Life, thrash and bash Punk!  Thats SICKO!
