Yet another pop-punk band is trying to make a name for themselves in the already over crowded scene. Sometimes you can tell right away that the band will go far and succeed, other times it’s really difficult to determine whether the band will make it or if they will just soon be forgotten about. The Higher falls into the latter category of the two.
The Higher plays your basic pop-punk sound you hear so often, there really is not much more you can say about it. Boyish vocals singing about relationships and growing up. They never really take a jump in a new direction with their vocals and stay on the safe side. Never really taking a step forward and controlling the song, they don’t stand out that well and don’t get stuck in your head either; which is somewhat surprising for a pop-punk band. The melody is often somewhat fast paced with a couple slower parts, most songs ranging around 3 and a half minutes to four minutes in length.
Unfortunately, t he album does grow old somewhat fast. It tends to get repetitive and isn’t one which I can listen to countless times over unless I am using it as background music only. My advice to you regarding this CD is to head down to their site and stream the entire EP. Listen to it a couple times and see if you still enjoy it.
